There are many independent pubs, cafés and restaurants in the city centre. In fact drinking and eating out is something of a local sport, with a field that includes up-market chains and fine dining options from famous chefs including Raymond Blanc, Rick Stein and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. There are museums aplenty (be sure to check out King Arthur’s legendary Round Table in the Great Hall!), art galleries, green parks, several live music venues and theatres, a couple of popular nightclubs (regular student haunts) and a small mainstream cinema so you will never be short of things to do.

Winchester has a very good local bus service, which is all a student needs to get around this wonderfully compact city. The local train station is also very well connected. On an average week day there are more than 80 trains running from Winchester to London Waterloo, with a fastest journey time of just over an hour.
